The 2021 Hyundai Elantra N Line

From Hyundai comes the new Elantra N Line. It looks to show off its redesigned styling, turbocharged engine, and performance upgrades over the regular model. Thomas and James put the sportiness of this compact sedan to the test. It has a peppy 1.6 Litre 4 cylinder turbo charged engine and a 7-speed DCT gearbox that makes quick shifts. Peak power is 201 horsepower and 195 pound feet of torque – respectable numbers for a car in this class and an engine of this size. However, will the lack of a limited slip differential up front compromise some of this car’s fun and playful nature? Thomas firmly believes the Elantra N Line would be better suited having a front LSD, but it seems that Hyundai is saving that upgrade for the full blown N.

An Introduction to Fun & Sporty Cars?

The Elantra N Line makes great sense as an introduction to sporty cars that value fun and engagement. As James mentions, the entire car feels rigid and playful – as if it wants to be chucked around and enjoyed. Yes, the inside wheel will certainly spin while putting the power down. But this is simply due to the lack of an LSD – an addition that is always welcome in performance focused cars. Thomas and James look past this to assess the way the new Elantra N Line platform performs in terms of fun. In other words: can this compact sedan put a smile on the face of whoever is behind the wheel? And how does it stack up against its competition, such as the Honda Civic SI or the Volkswagen GLI? Watch as the guys share their thoughts!
