Camry TRD vs Honda Accord vs Mazda 6

In this battle of Japanese economy sedans, Thomas and James set out to see which is fastest in a drag race. In the first lane is camera man Karston in the Mazda 6 2.5T. It packs a whopping 310 foot-pound of torque with a tank full of high octane fuel – but it only has 227 horsepower. In the middle lane is James driving the Honda Accord 2.0T. The Accord’s two litre turbo puts out 252 horsepower and 273 foot-pound of torque. This places it in the middle of all three cars, both in terms of lane position and horsepower and torque. In the third lane is Thomas driving the Toyota Camry TRD. It has the most power out of all three, at 301 horsepower, and churns out a respectable 267 foot-pound of torque.

These numbers add up for a very interesting drag race of Japanese economy sedans. The Mazda 6 is poised to take the jump off the line with its incredible amount of torque. But will it be enough to make up for the difference in horsepower? It’s up against the Honda Accord, which has a impressive engine and also has access to turbocharged forced induction. The most horsepower of the three is in the Camry TRD, but it is naturally aspirated. This means that it may not have access to the same amount of torque low down in the rev range. But will its extra horsepower be able to make up for it in the top end?

Thomas and James are fond of all three of these economy sedans. They are excellent commuters and extremely comfortable for longer journeys. However, this leaves but one question. How do they stack up when placed head to head on a drag strip? Watch and find out!
